What the crawler actually does

Workexe crawls your site the way Googlebot would: mobile-first, respects robots.txt, follows internal links from the homepage and the sitemap, executes JavaScript when enabled.

  • Mobile Smartphone user-agent by default, matching Googlebot
  • Respects robots.txt and noindex (so you see the same surface Google sees)
  • JavaScript rendering toggleable per project (slower, needed for SPAs)
  • Crawl budget defaults to 10K URLs, raise up to 300K in Settings

The 200+ rule library, by category

Rules are grouped into 8 categories that match how you actually triage issues. Each rule includes the spec it is based on (Google docs, Schema.org, IETF) so you can defend the fix in a backlog review.

  • Indexability, canonicals, noindex, robots, sitemap consistency
  • On-page, title, meta, headings, content length, internal links
  • Schema, JSON-LD validity, required fields, recommended fields
  • Performance, Core Web Vitals from CrUX (real user data)
  • Security, HTTPS, mixed content, HSTS
  • Hreflang, language and region tag consistency across language versions
  • Mobile, viewport, tap target spacing, font sizes
  • Crawl, redirect chains, 4xx and 5xx errors, orphan pages

Impact Score, why it beats issue count

Each finding gets an Impact Score (0 to 100) based on how much traffic the affected URLs currently bring and how strongly Google penalises the rule. Fix high-Impact items first, even if there are only a handful.

  • Score 80+, definite priority, ship within the sprint
  • Score 40 to 80, plan for next sprint
  • Score under 40, batch fix when convenient
  • Impact uses GSC traffic + rule weight, not synthetic estimates

Assigning, fixing and re-verifying

Assign findings to a teammate, set a due date and Workexe creates a linked SEO Task automatically. On the next crawl, fixed findings are re-verified and the Health Score updates without manual marking.

  • Per-finding assignee, due date and comments
  • Auto re-verification on the next scheduled or manual crawl
  • Diff view shows exactly what changed since the last audit

Scheduling and re-crawl cadence

Default schedule is weekly. Switch to daily during major migrations, monthly for stable sites. You can also trigger an on-demand crawl on a specific URL or section.

  • Weekly default, daily/monthly toggle per project
  • Section crawl, restrict to a path like /blog/ for focused checks
  • Crawl history kept for 24 months for trend analysis
